[Sawamura Daichi x Reader]

- - - -

Even though it was his last year and he knew he should have been paying attention to the teacher, Sawamura's eyes couldn't help but drift towards a certain girl. One that he was so very close to a year ago but was merely a stranger now.

[Name] [Surname]. She was the love of his life. Sawamura was enthralled by her beauty the moment he laid eyes on her back in first year. The two connected and began dating a couple of months after meeting.

And although all couples had their fights, they would get through it because they loved each other and it'd only make them stronger. Yet even though Sawamura and [Name] loved each other, they weren't strong enough to get past their first major fight and it ended their one and a half year relationship.

The butterflies he got whenever he looked at [Name] still appeared and he longed to hold her in his arms once again. If only he could turn back time and prevented the fight from escalating to that point, he would. But life didn't work that way.

The sound of the bell ringing brought him out of his thoughts as the students around him started to gather up their things and he did the same as well.

Sugawara patiently waited for his friend to finish up packing so they could head to practice. Throughout the class, he noticed that Sawamura's eyes never left [Name]'s figure. It was obvious to him that Sawamura was still deeply in love with the girl. Even as Sawamura was packing up, his eyes drifted to [Name] every few seconds.

"Daichi, why don't you go and talk to her?" Sugawara questioned. Sawamura already knew who he was referring to. "It's never too late to fix things. You were much happier with her around. I'll go ahead to the gym first"

He gave Sawamura a pat on the back as encouragement and left the classroom. Sawamura looked back at the girl as she left the classroom soon after Sugawara. It wouldn't hurt to just say hi to her, would it?

"[Surname]-san!"

The girl turned at the sound of her name and mentally slapped herself when her heart fluttered at the sight of her ex jogging up to her. She didn't understand why he was talking to her now though, they hadn't spoken since their break up.

"Hey," Sawamura let out a breath, "It's been a while"

"It has," [Name] nodded in agreement, "How are you? Last I heard, you're the captain of the volleyball team now. Congratulations"

Sawamura gave her a smile, "Thank you"

And then it went silent. It was an uncomfortable silence and Sawamura wanted to desperately get rid of it. Before he had a chance, [Name] did it.

"Sawamura-san, was there a reason you wanted to speak to me?" Her eyes darted hallway behind him, being so close to him brought back the memories of their time together. She tried to push the feelings she still held so dearly for him away but it remained still in her heart.

What could he say now? Sawamura hadn't properly thought anything out when he decided to say hi. His eyes scanned [Name] and memories flashed inside his mind. He still loved her so much and he wanted to be with her once again.

"I still love you, [Name]"

[Name]'s eyes flashed to his within seconds in shock and Sawamura mentally smacked himself. Just because he still had feelings for her didn't mean it would be reciprocated.

"You don't have to respond," I don't want to hear you say that you don't love me anymore, "I just wanted you to know that even though we ended on bad terms, I still care about you"

And I wish I could have fixed us

He gave her a nod before heading towards the gym. Training would help keep his mind off her for a little while.

"Daichi, wait," [Name] called out, reaching out to grab his arm and prevent him from moving. She looked up at him and gave him a smile, one that made him fall in love with her all over again.

"You know," She started, "It's never too late to try again. After all, I never stopped loving you either Daichi"

And her smile grew wider when she saw the amount of affection Sawamura held in his eyes when he looked at her. Interlocking their fingers together, she knew that the broken pieces of her heart would surely be fixed and wounds would heal.

Slowly but surely.
